Image to WebP Converter
Convert JPEG, PNG, GIF, and AVIF images to WebP directly in your browser. Adjust quality, see exact file size savings, and download instantly. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Why convert stock photos to WebP?
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that produces files 25–35% smaller than JPEG and 25–50% smaller than PNG at equivalent visual quality. For stock photo contributors, this matters for portfolio websites and personal sites where page speed affects both user experience and SEO ranking.
The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — your images are never sent to any server. This makes it safe to use with commercially sensitive or unreleased images.
Choosing the right quality setting
The quality slider controls the compression level. Here is a practical guide:
- 85–100% — Visually lossless. Use for images where pixel-perfect fidelity matters. File sizes are still 20–30% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality.
- 70–84% — Balanced. Recommended for most web use cases. Near-identical appearance with 35–50% size reduction vs. JPEG.
- Below 70% — Aggressive compression. Visible artefacts may appear, especially in areas with fine detail or text.
Browser support
WebP is supported by all major browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari 14+, Edge, and Opera. As of 2024, global WebP support exceeds 97%. For the rare visitor on an older browser, use a <picture> element with a JPEG fallback.
What about AVIF?
AVIF offers even better compression than WebP but has lower browser support (around 90%). WebP remains the safer choice for broad compatibility. If you need AVIF, this tool can accept AVIF as input and produce a WebP output that works everywhere.
